Automatic Life Jacket
An automatic life jacket is a personal floatation device that inflates automatically when a casualty falls into the water. How do automatic life jackets work?
Automatic life jackets contain a mechanism that, when wet, activates a sensor that fires and activates a gas bottle, releasing CO2 which then inflates the life jacket. As we touched on above, if a man overboard is knocked unconscious or is disorientated, an automatic life jacket will show it's worth by automatically inflating. All automatic life jackets contain a manual pull string as a back-up.
