Yacht Chandlery Retail Assistant

Hours: Monday to Friday (08:45 to 15:00). Plus, every 3rd weekend (Saturday 09:00 to 17:00 & Sunday 09:30 to 13:30). One Weekday off for each weekend worked.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and knowledge, linked to minimum wage.

Job Description

One of the UK’s largest and fastest growing Yacht Chandlers is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Retail Assistant to join our growing team.

The successful candidate will have their own set of responsibilities within the business, reporting to the Managing Director and General Manager. These responsibilities may include:

  • Serving and assisting customers
  • General customer service duties.
  • Handling ecommerce and telephone enquiries and orders
  • Preparing quotations and price checking against competitors
  • Liaising with couriers
  • Liaising with suppliers
  • Researching products
  • Assisting with the process of goods inward and outward (not prime responsibility, but to assist as required)
  • Performing an electronic revolving stock taking process

The successful candidate will be confident, professional and a good communicator, with the ability to work as part of a small team.

Given the nature of our business, priority will be given to those applicants with experience of marine products, whether that be from a professional or personal perspective.

Person Specification

The successful applicant will possess:

  • Experience of boating products
  • Experience of customer service activities
  • Excellent time-keeping with a willingness to ‘do more’ when required
  • High level IT skillset with ability to learn new systems quickly to understand and effectively use our Electronic Point of Sale systems in detail
  • A good use of the English language (both written and spoken) and be an excellent communicator
  • Good numerical ability to correctly calculate discounts, margins, profit, percentages etc
  • An excellent and confident telephone manner
  • Experience of Stock Management (beneficial but not essential)
  • A supportive team member attitude
