Hammar Life Jackets
Hammar hydrostatic life jackets are primarily used by those sailing offshore, as they offer all the benefits of an automatic life jacket, without the risk of accidental inflation caused by spray or rain. In addition, hammar life jackets have a manual pull toggle should the life jacket fail to inflate.
How do hammar life jackets work?
Hammar hydrostatic life jackets rely on water pressure to activate. The unit consists of a small unit containing a highly sensitive hydrostatic valve which is activated when submerged in water at a certain depth (often around 10cm). This valve releases a trigger pin, thus inflating the life jacket.
Hammar hydrostatic life jackets are often confused with pro sensor life jackets - which instead use a water activated system to inflate, as opposed to a water pressure system. We go further into detail on this subject in our life jacket inflation guide.
