Safety Lines
Safety Line
A life jacket safety line is a type of safety equipment used to prevent individuals from falling overboard while on a boat or ship. It typically consists of a strong, durable line or strap that is attached to a person's life jacket or harness, and secured to a fixed point on the vessel.
The purpose of a life jacket safety line is to ensure that a person who falls overboard remains connected to the boat or ship, and can be easily pulled back on board in case of an emergency. This type of safety equipment is particularly important for individuals who are working on deck or participating in water sports, as they are at a higher risk of falling overboard.
It's important to note that a life jacket safety line should always be used in conjunction with a properly fitting life jacket, as this provides additional buoyancy and support in the water. Additionally, individuals using a life jacket safety line should be properly trained in its use, as well as in emergency procedures for rescuing someone who has fallen overboard. The RYA recommend that when working in an exposed position, you use a shorter safety line.
Elasticated Safety Lines:
You may notice that products such as Seago 3 Hook Safety Line are elasticated. Elastication minimises the slack in the safety line, reducing the risk of anyone on board accidentally tripping over the line, and it also reduces the possibility of a hook getting caught under a deck fitting. The elasticated safety line mentioned also has an overload indicator, which helps you to decide when it needs to be replaced.
