Pro Sensor Life Jackets
Pro sensor life jackets are hugely popular with those sailing further afield, as they offer all the benefits of an automatic life jacket, without the risk of accidental inflation caused by spray or rain. Due to this advancement in technology, many automatic life jackets, such as Spinlock's Deckvest 6D Life Jacket, actually use a pro sensor life jacket re arming kit.
How do pro sensor life jackets work?
Pro sensor life jackets use a water activated system containing a compressed paper capsule which is contained within the firing head. When wet, the paper capsule dissolves, releasing a spring that punctures the CO2 cylinder, thus inflating the life jacket. The mechanism is designed to ensure that only water flowing upwards through the mechanism will cause the life jacket to inflate, so any water, spray or rain running down the life jacket will not trigger the mechanism.
Pro sensor life jackets are often confused with hammar life jackets - which instead use a water pressure system to inflate, as opposed to a water activated system. We go further into detail on this subject in our life jacket inflation guide.
