Paddle Board Buoyancy Aids

What is the difference between buoyancy aids and life jackets?

Do I Need A Buoyancy Aid Or A Life Jacket?

Paddle & SUP Buoyancy Aids

A highly popular water sport worldwide, paddle boarding or stand up paddle boarding (SUP) is a fantastic way to keep fit and healthy for young and older participants. Of course, when engaging in a new activity, it is important to familiarise yourself with safety regulations and essential equipment that must be worn to ensure that you remain protected when out on the water.

Whether you are considering purchasing SUP buoyancy aids for an occasional activity or as part of a regular hobby, Pirates Cave Chandlery have one of the widest ranges of buoyancy aids available online in the UK. We pride ourselves on sourcing top-quality products manufactured by the most reputable suppliers worldwide, including Spinlock, Crewsaver, Marinepool, Seago and more.

Please note that buoyancy aids for paddle boarding are not intended for use by wearers who are completely unable to swim. Instead, SUP buoyancy aids are capable of keeping a person afloat without constricting the body and arms, therefore allowing the user to comfortably swim in sheltered waters where assistance is nearby. However, if you are planning to head out to deeper waters, with minimal or no additional assistance, you may want to consider purchasing a life jacket. These can be worn by userspassengers with a range of swimming abilities, but cannot be used to swim and have a higher buoyancy level of greater than 50N.

Buoyancy Aid For SUP

SUPs are incredibly versatile forms of watersports equipment and can be used for a number of activities. From SUP surfing to SUP fishing, SUP racing and more, the only limit is your imagination. When enjoying your time out on the water, you will want to make sure that you are following safety guidelines so that you can make the most of your time.

One way of doing this is to wear a form of SUP buoyancy aid that is referred to as a flotation aid. Unlike a conventional buoyancy aid, the flotation aid is worn deflated around the waist in a small, lightweight bag. This allows the wearer to make arm movements freely, only inflating the product when actual contact with the water occurs. Additionally, this form of paddle board buoyancy aid is 75N, meaning that it is more buoyant and therefore suitable for those less confident in swimming.
