What does a danbuoy do?

A useful part of any vessel's safety equipment, a danbuoy is deployed in a man overboard situation to mark the approximate location in which the casualty entered the water. In addition, thanks to its height, a danbuoy provides a highly visible target from your vessel, as opposed to a bobbing head in the water. Furthermore, the casualty in the water will also be able to see the danbuoy and make their way towards it.

Inflatable Danbuoys

Inflatable danbuoys are rapidly growing in popularity, largely down to their ease of storage. Danbuoy's such as Seago's SB3 Self Inflating Danbuoy Marker are supplied in a watertight storage unit that can be mounted in a secure, easy to access location for quick deployment. Once taken out of the storage unit, the inflatable danbuoy will automatically deploy when dropped into the water.

Ocean Safety have gone one step further with this, adding a layer of hi-vis fabric to their Jon Buoy Glo Lite Danbuoy - so the danbuoy will be highly reflective, therefore increasing perception in dark conditions.
