Teardrop Galileo Thermometer, 11cm

Using Galileo's discovery that liquids have different densities at different temperatures this Galileo thermometer, shaped like a tear, is a fancy decorative piece that serves a function, and looks good while doing it. 

The carefully weighted glass globes inside the teardrop are suspended in the liquid and will sedately sink or float depending on the temperature of the surrounding air. Each glass globe has an engraved brass tag that shows the temperature, with the lowest floating globe being the correct temperature reading, with 5 globes measuring from 18 to 24 degrees. Measuring 11 cm tall by 8 cm in width.
