Anode Kits

Boat anode kits for hulls, outboards and sterndrives

Replacing worn anodes is a regular part of looking after the metal parts beneath the waterline. An anode is made from a metal chosen to corrode in preference to the underwater components it is fitted to protect. Boat anode kits bring together anodes for a particular fitting or application, making it easier to find the right replacements when you are preparing for a lift-out or routine service. Our range includes hull, outboard and sterndrive anode kits in different metals and configurations. The right choice depends on your boat, the equipment fitted and whether it is used in salt, brackish or fresh water.

Find the kit for the part you need to protect

Start with hull anode kits if you are replacing anodes mounted to the hull or another specified underwater fitting. Kits in this part of the range include familiar disc and pear-shaped designs, but shape alone is not enough to confirm a match. Compare the anode's dimensions, fixing centres, mounting arrangement and material with the part already fitted. Check the individual listing to see exactly what comes in the kit, including whether fixings or other components are supplied.

For an engine mounted on the transom, browse outboard anode kits. These are intended for specific makes and engine configurations rather than every outboard from a brand. Use the engine manufacturer's model designation, horsepower, production year and, where relevant, serial number to narrow the choice. An anode kit that looks similar in a photograph may have different fixing points or contain a different set of pieces, so check the product description and your engine documentation before ordering.

Our sterndrive anode kits cover drive-specific replacement needs. Sterndrive ranges can include several generations and closely named models; even kits for the same manufacturer may differ by drive type. Check the precise drive designation and compare the listed anode positions, shapes and fixings with your existing setup. If several underwater parts need attention, inspecting them together at lift-out can help you see which anodes and associated components require replacement.

Which anode metal suits your boating water?

Water type matters as much as physical fit. Zinc anodes are commonly used in salt water. Aluminium anodes are used in salt and brackish water, making them an option to investigate when a boat spends time in estuaries or tidal marinas. Magnesium anodes are generally used in fresh water; they can be consumed too quickly in salt water. These are general selection guides, so follow the anode and equipment manufacturers' guidance for your vessel, particularly if it moves between different water types. The metals are not interchangeable simply because the anodes share the same shape.

If the kit you need is not the right way to replace every anode aboard, explore the wider boat anodes range for individual options. A hull anode kit, for example, should not be assumed to include anodes for the shaft, propeller or engine. Read each kit's contents before you buy, and check the other underwater metalwork during the same inspection.

Check condition and fitting before relaunch

Look over the anodes whenever the boat is out of the water and compare their condition with your previous inspection. Heavy wear, uneven consumption or an anode that appears not to be working as expected can call for a closer check of the installation and electrical connection to the part it protects. Anodes need the correct contact to do their job; covering the working anode surface with paint can prevent it from working properly. Follow the manufacturer's fitting instructions and check the condition of the mountings and any required bonding or continuity connections. Wear rates vary with the boat, water conditions and installation, so there is no single replacement interval that suits every vessel.

Boat anode kit questions

What is included in a boat anode kit?

Contents vary by product. Some kits group several anodes for a particular outboard or sterndrive, while others pair a hull anode with specified fitting parts. Check the individual listing for the number of anodes, their material and any included fixings rather than assuming that every kit contains the same items.

How do I find the right sterndrive or outboard anode kit?

Identify the exact engine or drive model first, then check any relevant year or serial number against the kit's stated compatibility. Compare the old anodes and their fixing points with the product details. If those details do not agree, confirm the correct kit before fitting it.

Can I use a saltwater anode kit in fresh water?

Do not select a kit on fit alone. Anode materials behave differently in salt, brackish and fresh water, and a kit suited to one environment may give poor protection in another. Check both the metal specified for your boating water and the kit's compatibility with the equipment it will protect.
